Caffeine-free Tea at Starbucks
Wondering if Starbucks has any caffeine free teas?
Well, you’re in luck. Starbucks has several hot and iced tea drinks that don’t contain any caffeine at all.
In fact, all Starbucks herbal teas are caffeine-free. This is because, technically speaking, herbal tea really isn’t tea.
On the other hand, all the other Starbucks tea drinks contain varying amounts of caffeine.
This is because all true teas, like black, green and white, come from the same plant, Camellia Sinensis which contains caffeine. Both the tea’s flavor and caffeine level depends on how the tea leaves are processed.
Since herbal tea is not made from Camellia Sinensis, it contains no caffeine.
So, if you’re looking for a caffeine-free tea at Starbucks, or anywhere for that matter, take a look at the herbal tea offerings.
Please Note: Caffeine amounts listed in this guide are for grande size tea drinks.
Starbucks Caffeine-Free Tea Drinks
- Comfort Brewed Wellness Tea (hot)
- Mint Majesty (hot)
- Peach Tranquility (hot)
- Iced Passion Tango Tea
- Iced Passion Tango Tea Lemonade
Hot Tea: No Caffeine
Starbucks has several hot brewed, caffeine-free herbal teas. My absolute favorite, is Peach Tranquility.
In fact, to see just how delicious Peach Tranquility is, take a look at this post where I showcase each Teavana tea bag at Starbucks.
If you can’t get to Starbucks or like saving money on tea, Peach Tranquility is one of the Teavana tea sachets that is available for purchase online or in some grocery stores.

Iced Tea: No Caffeine
The only caffeine-free Starbucks iced tea is Iced Passion Tango Tea.
While Passion Tango is the only iced herbal tea available, it can be mixed with lemonade or other juices like peach or guava to make a variety of drinks.
In fact, my Starbucks go-to, caffeine-free summer drink is Iced Passion Tango with a splash of lemonade.
This iced tea is so refreshing that I even like to make it at home. Here’s my Starbucks copycat recipe for Passion Tango Tea Lemonade.
Starbucks Low-Caffeine Tea Drinks
- Emperor’s Cloud and Mist (hot – 16 mg)
- Honey Citrus Mint Tea (hot – 16 mg)
- Iced White Tea (20 mg)
- Iced Green Tea (25 mg)
- Iced Black Tea (25 mg)
Hot Tea: Low Caffeine
If you don’t mind having a little caffeine, Starbucks has several teas that contain 25 mg of caffeine or less.
For instance, a grande size Emperor’s Cloud and Mist, a sweet green tea, has 16 mg of caffeine.
Likewise, a grande Honey Citrus Mint, more commonly known as Coldbuster or Medicine Ball Tea, contains 16 mg of caffeine.
Made with one herbal tea bag, one green tea bag, steamed lemonade and honey, Honey Citrus Mint tea is said to soothe a sore throat.
Iced Tea: Low Caffeine
At first glance, it looks like Starbucks only has three iced teas containing a lower amount of caffeine: white, green and black.
However, all Starbucks iced teas can be mixed and matched with all sorts of other drinks to make a variety of iced tea drinks.
In fact, here’s my Starbucks Iced Tea Guide showing you all the ways iced tea can be customized.
For example, any tea concentrate (black, white, green or herbal) can be mixed with lemonade, peach juice, guava juice, apple juice or even another tea.
Starbucks Medium-Caffeine Tea Drinks
- Chai Tea (hot – 40 mg)
- Earl Grey (hot – 40 mg)
- Jade Citrus Mint (hot – 40 mg)
- Rev Up Brewed Wellness Tea (hot – 40 mg)
- Royal English Breakfast (hot – 40 mg)
- London Fog Latte (hot – 40 mg)
- Royal English Breakfast Tea Latte (hot – 40 mg)
- Iced London Fog Tea Latte (40 mg)
- Iced Royal English Breakfast Tea Latte (40 mg)
All Starbucks hot tea drinks in the list above that contain a medium level of caffeine (40 mg) are hot brewed Teavana tea bags.
It’s important to note, tall and grande size teas are made with one tea bag, whereas a venti is made with two tea bags. This means that a venti hot brewed tea has twice the caffeine amount as the smaller sizes.
And I should know; my go-to Starbucks hot tea to wake me up in the morning is a venti earl grey tea with a little milk.
A London Fog latte is another favorite of mine, also made with earl grey tea bags, plus vanilla syrup and steamed milk.
Additionally, you should know, Starbucks has two types of chai tea. The hot brewed chai tea is made with a Teavana chai tea bag.
Whereas, a hot chai tea latte is made with chai black tea concentrate which has way more caffeine.

Starbucks High-Caffeine Tea Drinks
- Matcha Green Tea Latte (hot – 80 mg)
- Chai Tea Latte (hot – 95 mg)
- Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte (80 mg)
- Iced Chai Tea Latte (95 mg)
Finally, while I know you came to this guide looking for Starbucks caffeine-free tea drinks, here you can see the teas that are high caffeine.
In other words, avoid these teas if you don’t want caffeine.
As you can see, the high-caffeine teas, hot or iced, are either matcha or chai.
Starbucks Matcha
Like all matcha, Starbucks matcha tea drinks have a lot of caffeine.
Matcha is green tea powder. So when you drink matcha, usually dissolved in water or milk, you are drinking the tea leaf and all its caffeine.
Alternatively, when you brew green tea, you simply steep the tea bag in hot water and remove it. Therefore, brewed green tea has a lot less caffeine than matcha green tea.

Starbucks Chai Tea
Both hot and iced chai tea lattes are made with chai tea concentrate and a grande has a whopping 95 mg of caffeine. If you want to perk up fast, this tea should do the trick.
On the other hand, if you want the flavor of chai but a little less caffeine, opt for a hot brewed chai tea made with a tea bag. This is also a good way to reduce the amount of sugar and calories.
